# Purpose and Scope

Why Flasgo exists and what it is trying to optimize for.

Source: https://flasgo.dev/reference/purpose-and-scope/

Flasgo exists to give Python developers a web framework that feels direct and productive without treating security as optional.

The project focuses on four priorities:

1. Fast request handling through an ASGI-native core.
2. First-class async support for modern Python applications.
3. Secure defaults that reduce common deployment mistakes.
4. A concise, type-friendly API that stays approachable.

## What Flasgo is for

Flasgo is designed for APIs, small to medium web apps, and service backends where developers want a lightweight programming model but still need sound production behavior.

It is especially useful when you want:

- Flask-like route handlers and quick iteration
- Explicit, code-driven configuration
- Built-in support for forms, templates, JSON responses, and static assets
- Typed request models and reusable sync or async dependencies
- Secure WebSocket routes, lifespan-managed resources, and background tasks
- Built-in testing, operational checks, structured logs, optional metrics, and optional tracing
- An easier migration path from Flask-style applications to ASGI deployment

## What Flasgo does not try to be

Flasgo does not aim to be a batteries-everywhere framework with a huge abstraction surface. The project keeps the API intentionally narrow and leaves room for teams to layer in their own application structure.

## Flasgo 0.9.0 additions

Flasgo 0.9.0 adds HTTP blueprints and URL generation, explicit dependency lifetimes and test overrides, response contracts, bounded streams/SSE/NDJSON, deployment policy snapshots, and shared Redis/Valkey quotas and sessions. See the [0.9.0 feature overview](/overview/#flasgo-090-additions) and its linked guides. Flasgo leaves ORM selection, durable background jobs, event replay, and the outbound HTTP client to the application.
